José Ángel Vincench was born in Holguín, Cuba in 1973. He studied at the Escuela Elemental and the Escuela de Nivel Medio Superior de Artes Plásticas de Holguín, and graduated in 1997 from the Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana. Today he lives and works in Havana. Since his first works, made in the mid-nineties, which dealt with the rituals and symbols of the Afro-Cuban religion, Vincench's artistic work is inscribed in an abstract expression as a visual support to investigate deeply and incisively the political and social situation in Cuba.
