Ernesto Jesús García

 

Born in Havana in 1970. Graduated in 1989 from the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts, Marianao, and in 1994 from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana.

 

From 1996 and for more than ten years, he is professor of painting and drawing at the San Antonio de los Baños Academy of Fine Arts in Artemisa, Cuba. He then moved to Havana and became Esterio Segura's assistant.

His work pays tribute to the great Cuban figurative school. Through the series of black holes, Ernesto Garcia, talks about the feeling of traveling back in time when one is in Cuba, as if one were halfway between several eras. The artist, who works in the studio of Esterio Segura, has participated in many collective exhibitions such as "Si Tim Has Tim Vale" (Higher Institute of Art of Havana) during the 4th Havana Biennale in 1991 , "No Valen Guayabas Verdes" (Higher Institute of Art of Havana) in 1992, "The metaphors of the temple" (Havana Visual Arts Development Center) in 1993, "Erotic Green Humor" (San Antonio Biennial) from Los Baños, Artemisa) in 1995, "The Nuclear Collective" (private gallery Alternative Soho, Havana) in 2010, a permanent exhibition at the Residence Ella Cisneros (Havana) in 2016 and finally "La Noche Boca Arriba" (Gallery The Acacia, Havana) in 2018.

 

In 2019, he made a solo exhibition at Studio Esterio Segura in Havana.
