Leila Alaoui and social reality
Franco-Moroccan photographer and videographer (1982 - 2016) represented by Galleria Continua, Leila Alaoui studied photography at New York University. His work explored identity building, cultural diversity, and migration in the Mediterranean space.
She used photography and video art to express social realities through a visual language that borders on documentary and visual arts.
Her work is exhibited internationally (Art Dubai, the Arab World Institute, and the European House of Photography in Paris) and her photographs published in numerous newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times and Vogue.
In January 2016, while she was mandated by Amnesty International to do work in Burkina Faso, Leila Alaoui was the victim of the terrorist attacks in Ouagadougou on January 15, 2016. She died of her injuries on January 18, 2016.
