Nigentz and the representation of the self
Nigentz developed a passion for photography very early on. He then became interested in the image as a vector of narrative, meaning and symbols. Living in Grenoble until he was 18, he arrived in Paris to study, then completed his training in Los Angeles.
Through his portraits, he works mainly on identity and self-representation: the staged body, the spectacle and fantasies through costumes, make-up, and masks.
Stéphane Nigentz is currently working on a series on masks, on our relationship to the real, the hidden and the beyond. This series ranges from fetishist masks in Parisian underground parties to ancestral masks from West Africa.
