HASSAN HAJJAJ

PRÉSENTATION

Né en 1961 à Larache au Maroc. Hassan Hajjaj vit et travaille entre Marrakech et Londres. 

Il évolue entre plusieurs univers artistiques : la photographie, la mode, la musique, le cinéma et le design tout en présentant un point de vue critique et décomplexé sur la société de consommation.

 

Il questionne la tradition et l’identité, avec notamment son regard singulier sur le port du voile, ainsi que sur le quotidien des gens qu’il côtoie, amis ou inconnus croisés dans la rue du Maroc ou ailleurs.

 

Le travail de Hassan Hajjaj est une forme de célébration de la culture visuelle populaire du souk, un espace social, symbole d’interactions et d’échanges. L’artiste emprunte avec joie à la culture marocaine, utilisant ainsi des stéréotypes picturaux tels que les odalisques ou les images de marques et leurs logos cultes. C’est avec audace qu’il assemble et oppose éléments orientaux et occidentaux, pour créer un univers riche et universel. Le soin qu’apporte Hassan Hajjaj à l’encadrement de ses photos rappelle le degré de finition dans la répétition des motifs de l’art décoratif islamique.

 

Ses œuvres ont intégré des collections de renom comme celle du Musée d’art du comté de Los Angeles (Etats-Unis), du Musée des Beaux-Arts de Virginie (Etats-Unis), de l’Institut des Cultures d’Islam de Paris (France), du Musée Victoria et Albert (Royaume-Uni), la collection Barjeel (Emirats Arabes Unis) …

L'artiste a bénéficié en 2019 d'une grande retrospective à la Maison Européenne de la Photographie à Paris.

Cette dernière est par la suite présentée en Suède, Angleterre, Corée du Sud et aux Etats Unis.
