Through field research, interviews, and collaborations with local communities, Vitturi examines informal economies and the fusion of cultures, examining how the movement of objects and people shapes our globalized world. In Caminantes, he explores his own cultural roots, retracing his father’s journey from Venice to Peru, where he founded a glass factory and met the artist’s mother. This personal journey becomes the foundation for works that blend Murano glass, Peruvian textiles, and materials collected from his travels between the two countries. More recently, for his Jugalbandi project, Vitturi has teamed up with Indian weavers, combining their ancestral craftsmanship with abstract designs to create unique textile sculptures.
In his projects, Vitturi challenges traditional boundaries between organic and man-made materials, nature and culture, the Old and the New continent, past and present. His sculptures and photographs highlight the encounter between heterogeneous elements which, through their juxtaposition, form a new sense of cohesion.. In this process of assembly and transformation, both personal and collective, the artist captures the essence of his own journey while revealing the multiple stories and dynamics that shape our cultural identities.
Vitturi currently lives and works between Venice and London. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at renowned institutions such as the FOAM Museum (Amsterdam, NL), Fondazione MAST (Bologna, IT), Centre Photographique Rouen Normandie, The Photographers Gallery (London, UK), Contact Photography Festival (Toronto, CA), and CNA (Luxembourg). He has also participated in several group exhibitions, including at MAXXI (Rome, IT), Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, FR), La Triennale (Milan, IT), BOZAR (Brussels, BE), and K11 Art Space (Shanghai, CN). His work is part of prominent collections, including those of the FOAM Museum (Amsterdam, NL), Musei Civici di Modena (Modena, IT), Nitja Centre for Contemporary Art (Lillestrøm, NO), the Nicola Trussardi Foundation (Italy), Harvard University (USA), and the Martin Parr Foundation (UK).
