Lib: Terre Infertile
The story of a family from northern Kosovo is the foundation from which Terre infertile emerges. Originating from barren lands made of rock, Lib (1989–) pays tribute to this poor village where he was born and raised, near Mitrovicë, where nothing grows—not even hope. Terre infertile is therefore a form of revenge against life. A revenge against the war, which condemned hundreds of women and men who were unable to cultivate crops or aspirations, forcing them to look toward the glitter and wealth of developed countries.
Surrounded by and fascinated by the artisans and artists in his family, Lib attempts to break the spell by using mineral materials such as stones, sand, and pebbles, which bring his picturesque works to life. In this way, his artistic practice draws a parallel between his childhood and the history of a country. Lib explores the depths of his soul to create rough diamonds, shaped by the dreams of a family from northern Kosovo.
