Overview
We Belong Here: The Gutierrez Collection was the first public exhibition of a collection of contemporary art built over the past decade by North Carolina–based collectors Onay Gutierrez and Jeff Childers.  The exhibition featured over 130 works created in the twenty-first century by some of the biggest names in contemporary art today.
The paintings of Sesse Elangwe show the personal, social and political narratives black communities face, both in Africa and the United States, as well as elsewhere. His style, both realistic and vibrant, highlights the beauty of black skin and emphasizes the strength of his subjects’ facial expressions.
