NOIRES, the refuge exhibition by Guadeloupean artist Roxane Mbanga

At the Maison des Mondes Africains and later at the 193 Gallery in Paris, Guadeloupean artist Roxane Mbanga invites Black women to take refuge in her ideal home. An innovative and immersive exhibition.

A large pink fabric triptych welcomes visitors to the brand-new Maison des Mondes Africains (MansA) in Paris. Until October 26, Afro-Guadeloupean artist Roxane Mbanga presents NOIRES, a multidisciplinary and interactive installation. “NOIRES is my dream home,” the artist explains. “It evolves each time I exhibit and re-exhibit it. Every time, I adapt it to the space that hosts me.” For MansA’s inaugural exhibition, Roxane Mbanga has transformed the 160-square-meter venue into a vast living room. “What mattered to me,” she adds, “was to highlight a part of the home where people can meet, relax, and start conversations. For me, that space is the living room.”
