Started in 2021, Entre chien et loup (Between Dog and Wolf): Image of Desire explores in-between states through the transformation and reworking of materials. Wooden panels bearing the marks, stains, and residues of the artist’s practice are coated with plaster, creating surfaces that evoke painting, sculpture, and skin. Tattoo imagery centered on a specific theme is printed on transparent sheets and layered over these surfaces, suggesting fragments of the artist’s personal history, real or imagined, inscribed on a body.

In 2026, the artist returns to the series, introducing a painted motif that develops through repetition, imitation, and error. Each form attempts to reproduce the one before it, without ever matching it exactly. These variations become integral to the work: each repetition yields a unique form, as gesture, time, and imperfection continually reshape the image. Echoing “Bonnard syndrome” (a reference to Pierre Bonnard’s habit of returning to and reworking his paintings over time), the work remains open to further transformation. It takes shape layer by layer, between memory and emergence, repetition and difference.

********************
