For our first participation at the Fair Shanghai West Bund, from November 9th to 12th, we are pleased to present a solo show by the artist Joana Choumali. Joana's latest series, Albahian, is made of multiple layers of delicate, dreamy fabrics, interwoven and embroidered with parts of images, poetic collages of photographs. The real world merges with the feelings and impressions of the inner world, resulting in an evocative, complex image enriched by invisible meanings. This would not be possible without the introspective examination Joana Choumali has undergone. Alba'hian means "first light of morning", or dawn, in the Agni language of Côte d'Ivoire, and celebrates the powerful energy that comes with the start of a new day, the new light that makes everything visible and illuminates the world in the same way that we are born anew the moment we embrace our inner selves and accept our true nature.
