Overview
During this residency, Hyacinthe Ouattara carried on working on the human body, spirituality and issues related to the living world. Spanning both floors of Fondation H, his installation is conceived as an organic place of encounters, sharing and meditation, where the public is invited to take part by leaving scraps of fabric throughout the exhibition. By twisting, knotting and hanging textile pieces gleaned in Burkina Faso and France, Hyacinthe Ouattara conveys his fascination with organics, and questions the idea of connection. His work is a reflection on the broad concepts of memory and identity, brought to life by a sound recording from the streets of Accra in 2013. It examined the boundaries between vegetation and urbanity, balance and imbalance, appearance and disappearance, performance and intimacy, celebrating humanity in all its ambivalence as well as questioning our relationship to the living.

"[...] there is silence like in music, a tempo, a movement. There is a musicality in my work, a rhythm. In fact, when you enter my work, it’s as if you are connected. You feel frequencies by which I let myself be guided. It is as if the heartbeat of the Earth and the Cosmos dictated my actions."

-- Hyancinthe Ouattara
