In Kyoto, history makes no noise. It seeps into the alleyways, into the gardens, into the way a thousand-year-ols temple effortlessly coexists with a streetwear shop. It is in this particular relationship to time and beauty that Kyotographie has found, since 2013, its natural territory.
For this exhibition in Kyoto, Thandiwe Muriu carried out a residency before the festival, working with kimono and obi craftsmen to create some of the garments that appear in the works.
