Gaëlle Choisne’s Cosmic Collages at 193 Gallery

The French artist presents new series of paintings and sculptures, extending her practice of “scrap-painting”: works saturated with intimate remnants of memory, haunted by the dust of postcolonial history.

Winner of the 2024 Marcel Duchamp Prize, for which she created the installation L’Ère du Verseau at the Centre Pompidou, Gaëlle Choisne’s practice reflects her fascination with both esoteric beliefs and the traces of the postcolonial era. She continually operates across several “fields” at once — realism and magic, history and the present, matter and spirit.
