Thandiwe Muriu

CAMO is the first monograph by Kenyan artist Thandiwe Muriu, showcasing her acclaimed photographic series exploring identity, beauty, womanhood and African cultural heritage. Through vibrant, meticulously constructed compositions featuring traditional Ankara textiles, sculptural headdresses and everyday objects reimagined as striking accessories, Muriu celebrates African beauty while challenging conventional representations of femininity and identity. Each photograph is accompanied by an African proverb in English and Swahili, connecting contemporary photography with generations of cultural wisdom and storytelling.
