Unblinking is the first monograph dedicated to Sesse Elangwe, conceived and produced by 193 Gallery on the occasion of The Road, the artist’s solo exhibition in Venice in 2026. Bringing together extensive documentation of Elangwe’s paintings, the publication explores a practice centered on portraiture, the Black experience, migration, identity, and self-awareness. It features a curatorial essay by Louise Thurin and an in-depth conversation between the artist and Key Jo Lee, Chief of Curatorial Affairs and Public Programs at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD). Through Elangwe’s distinctive figures and their enlarged, unwavering eyes, Unblinking examines the gaze as a space of vigilance, resistance, and active engagement with the world.
