"We are merchants of hope and actors of freedom. In the darkest moments of life, we must give others the desire to live again and to believe in a better future." - Ezan Franck
Ezan was born in 1994 in Bingerville, Ivory Coast. Franck Ezan explores the complexity of the human being both from a psychological and physiological point of view. It is in his personal history that he draws the questioning necessary for his creative work. An intimate story, marked by experiences linked to a childhood as tormented as it was happy. Ezan grew up in an orphanage with his twin brother, also a visual artist. After five years at the National School of Fine Arts in Abidjan, he graduated with a Master 2 in painting in 2019.
His relationship with others, his deep torments and especially his relationship with his brother, his true double in appearance, will constitute the elements at the origin of the choices that have traced his path and that influence his artistic approach.
He draws spectral-looking characters, a little lost in a universe of images and symbols, and covers them with lines in the form of fingerprints, the only signs that differentiate him from his twin brother. He sculpts the faces in a translucent material without specifying the features. But does the physical aspect really matter?
Ezan wishes to reinvent the world in his own way, to sublimate it. He creates an enchanted universe, where the generosity of colors and forms take a singular path and give their poetic character to his works. According to his own words, his work "has the vocation to sublimate, to re-enchant a world anaesthetized by the doubt and frightened by the difference". Patiently, he develops a work of plastic research and throws the beginnings of an approach which he enriches and perfects with the wire of the projects.
