Iván Hurtado was trained in architecture at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin and in art at the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation in Sao Paulo. His works recall ancestral Colombia and evoke moments of socio-political crisis that invite us to reflect on violence through elements that show what we have lived through. He uses geometry as an instrument of exploration of the territory and geography.
He has received awards and mentions such as: Ephemeral Art Award of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellin and was commissioned to make the sculpture of the terrace of the MAMM. Honorable mention at the Salón de Arte Joven (Bogota) and third finalist in the monumental sculpture award for the 50th anniversary of the Universidad de Antioquia. Selected for the representation of Arco Colombia in Madrid by curator Juan Gaitan. He received an honorable mention at the Young Art Salon in Bogota. He was in the 39th and 40th Annual Art FAAP Cité des Arts, Residency Exchange of studies. Alvares Penteado Foundation, Sao Paulo. His work is in the collections of Sura, Luis Angel Arango Library, Argos, Museum of Modern Art of Medellin, Museum of Antioquia, Celsia, Museum of the Bank of the Republic of Colombia, among other institutions.
